[Book Blogger Hop] June 23rd - 29th

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a "hop". The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.

For this week's question, Elizabeth at Silver's Reviews asks:
If you are at a really good point in a book and the phone rings or the door bell rings, do you stop reading or let the phone or door bell go unanswered?

My answer:
This is a wonderful question! I've never really thought about it before...but I'm pretty certain that I will stop reading to at least check to see who it is. Whether I answer the call or the door is a whole other situation!

Where I live now, we get a TON of people knocking on the door to try to get us to sign petitions, to accept their take-out menu, or to try to sell us something... If I were to see someone like that at the door I would absolutely ignore them and keep reading! If it was someone I actually knew, I would answer. Same goes of the phone; if I knew the caller I would answer, otherwise they're going to voicemail.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Gah! I need to learn how to not answer the door when it is someone I don't know. I have such a bad habit of opening the door and then feeling obligated to listen to what ever they're selling or promoting.

    1. Yeah! It can get pretty scary! Especially when you get someone really pushy. The worst one I got was the carpet cleaning company that was going door to door. He kept trying to push inside to "check out the status of your rug." He kept saying "I can clean just the stairs, show you what we can do" no matter how many times I told him we rent and do not care about the rugs. When we move they're just going to tear them all up and replace them!

I got super paranoid here two years ago when there were cases of people trying to say they needed to check something inside, and once inside they would look around, and then come back later and rob the home. Thank god that didn't happen here.

    3. Oh my, Erica.

What did they say they needed to check?

    4. Right?! Insane! I think they just wanted to see how "dirty" it was...but we had only been here for a year at that point. No pets. We take off our shoes as soon as we get into the house. I vacuum once a week... our carpets looked brand new still!

  2. I love Caller ID....helps a lot, but it still does interrupt.

We don't get too many door bells ringing at my house. My brother did stop last night so I am glad I answered the bell. :)

Thanks for a great answer, and Happy Hopping!!

  4. It's easier for me to ignore the phone than the door, at least for me, although I do at least try to check and see who is calling my cell if I have it handy.

I have the same problem here with salespeople coming to the door. Not so much for petitions thankfully (they tend to accost me when I'm at the store). The security people are the worst around here. They can be really pushy and want to come in and see the system I have. How do I know they are legit? Besides, I already have an alarm system--can't they see the sign they had to pass coming up to my door?!

I hope you have a great weekend!

  6. What a pain. Luckily for me, knocks at the door are usually parcel deliveries or my in-laws. We only get a few Jehovah's Witnesses and sales reps, and if I see them coming without being seen through the window myself, I won't answer.

    1. Right?! Oh my gosh, I hide from so many sales people that knock.

  7. I might be inclined to answer the phone depending on who's calling, but I'm definitely not answering the door. Luckily, I now live somewhere that has a buzzer system, so no unexpected knocks at the door! :-)

  8. I wish I could see who is nocking on my door or who is calling me, but alas I can't see absolutely nothing through my peep hole and I don't have an caller id. So unfortunately for me I have too answer both door and phone. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog hop and have a great weekend Erica.

    1. Oh no! I hate that. My last apartment didn't have a peephole either...
