[Comic Review] Cartoon Cart by Shekhar Bhattacharya

Cartoon Cart by Shekhar Bhattacharya review

Unfortunately, this comic collection wasn't really my style. I can definitely see where other readers would enjoy it, so please do NOT let my meh-review deter you from reading it.

Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way.

[Book Review] Web Analytics: An Hour a Day by Avinash Kaushik

Web Analytics: An Hour a Day by Avinash Kaushik book review

I know this isn't my typical book review, but I wanted to post and see what the interest levels are anyway.

For months now, I have been very slowly reading through this Web Analytics book. This book took me so long to read for two reasons.

The first was that I read it mainly during my company allotted 2-hours per week of professional development time.

The second was because if I came across something I wanted to actually try and not just read about, I jumped onto the computer and sometimes got distracted for the remainder of my professional development time for that day.

So let's dive into my full review!

[Top 5 Wednesday] Future Classics

Top 5 Wednesday Future Classics

I understand that "Classics" are usually novels that achieve both critical acclaim as well as popularity.

However, my list is simply five books that I consider must-reads that I would like to see become classics regardless of critical acclaim or popularity.

[Top 10 Tuesday] Ten Authors I'd Love To Meet

Top 10 Tuesday Ten Authors I'd Love To Meet

I've had the wonderful opportunity to meet a few authors in the past! Some were local authors, while others were more "mainstream." Though as far as I can remember, I have only met seven which doesn't exactly fit in to the "Top 10" prompt. Man, I gotta get out to book signings more often!

So instead, I have created a list of ten authors that I would love to meet. In this list, I have added authors that are still with us as well as a couple that have passed, complete with their Goodreads links if you would like to check out the books that they have published.

Please note: these are in no particular order!

Enjoy!

[Book Review] The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley by Hannah Tinti

The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley by Hannah Tinti book review

The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley by Hannah Tinti is one of the 2017 releases that I was most looking forward to reading this year. When I got an email letting me know that I had won a copy from a Goodreads giveaway, I was so excited! And I am very happy to say that this book did not disappoint!

In honor of this book being released today (March 28th, 2017), here is my review!

[Book Review] The Otto Digmore Difference by Brent Hartinger

The Otto Digmore Difference by Brent Hartinger book review

Unfortunately this book was just not for me. I can definitely see where other readers would really enjoy it, so please do NOT let my negative review deter you from reading it. This book just hit on all of my personal reading irks.

Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way.

[Book Tag] The Fantastic Beasts Book Tag

fantastic beasts book tag created by PeterClarkTheWriter

The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them DVD comes out tomorrow! WAHOO! Not going to lie, I've been counting down the days. I was so impressed by this movie and the screenplay. My boyfriend absolutely loved it too. When we left the theater, he actually announced that it was the best movie that he has seen in a long time.

So in honor of the DVD release tomorrow, I thought it would be appropriate to repost this book tag. I originally posted it on my books amino account, but it is new to this blog.

Enjoy!

My Favorite Bookish Podcasts

My Favorite Bookish Podcasts- Erica Robyn Reads

I'll admit it- I'm a bit obsessed with podcasts! However, I am incredibly picky about the shows that I subscribe to. There are a number of reasons why I will not subscribe to a podcast; the biggest being poor audio quality.

Over the past few years, I have checked out a number of bookish shows, but only ended up subscribing to a handful. So I would happily accept any recommendations in the comments section below!

The following are my five favorite bookish podcasts.

[Book Review] Tinkers by Paul Harding

Tinkers by Paul Harding Book Review

I was on such a roll this year! Sure, I had a few DNF's. But then this book happened... I was temped to DNF, but I was reading it for a book club at work so I pushed through. Boy, it was brutal.

Beware, this entire review is negative.

[Top 5 Wednesday] Favorite Angsty Romances

Romance is a genre that I am incredibly picky about. The relationship in a romance novel needs to be cute and heartwarming for me. I have a blog post where I discuss my favorite romance tropes, but there are a ton more that I absolutely cannot stand. For example, I can no longer read a book when there is cheating or other poor treatment of either character involved.

And to be clear, I am picking from all kinds of angst here; some is "classic" angst, some high school level angst, while others are simply the type of angst that makes me want to scream "JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER" at the characters.

So, that being said, in this post I have included five of my favorite romances that have a healthy dash of angst.

Top 10 Tuesday Ten Books I Read In One Sitting

If you've been following this blog, you already know that I read a bunch of comics and graphic novels. Most of these I do read in one sitting. However, for this prompt I decided that I only wanted to focus on novels. So below are my picks that are organized in order of page number, starting with the longest book in the list at number 10, moving up to the shortest book.

[Book Review] Forgotten by Catherine McKenzie

Forgotten by Catherine McKenzie book review

I received this book in the mail months ago. For some reason, it wound up on my shelf where it just sat getting bumped by the other books on my TBR. Today, I finally picked it up and oh my goodness. I am absolutely kicking myself for taking this long to read it!

Full disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in a Goodreads giveaway. In no way does that affect my review.

[Book Review] Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin, Megan McDowell

Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin, Megan McDowell book review

Readers beware!! If you are looking for a rational book where everything is fully explained by the end, this is not the book for you.

That being said, I thought that this book was incredible. I was hooked from the very first page and absolutely could not put this book down! This will definitely be in my top 5 list of books published in 2017!

[Book Tag] Beauty and the Beast Tag

beauty and the beast book tag

I grew up on an island off the coast of Maine. It was lovely there, but technology seemed to take quite a while to reach us. I mean, it's 2017, and the town still doesn't have broadband internet.

My family didn't have cable until I was eight or nine. So to keep my brother and I occupied, my mom would go to "the mainland" and buy us the latest Disney VHS. We watched them over and over again. I loved so many of them, but Beauty and the Beast was always one of my favorites. I still have the lovely music "boxes" my family bought for me:

In honor of the live action film being released in theaters tomorrow, I wanted to post this book tag. (Thanks for tagging me, Heather's Reading Hideaway!)

[Top 5 Wednesday] Books You Felt Betrayed By

top 5 wednesday Books You Felt Betrayed By

Oh, book betrayal... Fair warning- my picks for this week are all over the place. This week though, I am using a bit of a different format to avoid too many spoilers.

If you don't like knowing anything about a book before you read it, I would not recommend continuing on. I don't think I have included anything too spoiler-y. But of course, that is based entirely on my judgement.

[Book Tag] The Bookish Academy Awards

The Bookish Academy Awards Book Tag

While I don't usually watch the Academy Awards, I stumbled across this tag on BookTube the other day and absolutely loved it. So of course I had to take part!

The Bookish Academy Awards was created by BOOKadoodles. Check out her original video here.  Note: Since this original video, she has updated the tag to incorporate more topics. Personally, I prefer the first tag, so that is the one I will be completing.

In this tag, I am only picking from the books that I read in 2016 that were also published in 2016. So I am dealing with some slim pickings here. But nevertheless, I think I have included some great books!

Enjoy!

After reading, and really disliking Volume 2, I almost didn't read this one. But because I had already gotten it from the library, I gave it a shot.

I'm SO glad I did! I enjoyed this one much more than the last one.

[Top 5 Wednesday] Book Related Jobs I'd Want To Have

Top 5 Wednesday: Book Related Jobs I'd Want To Have

I took a bit of a detour on this prompt. Rather than focusing on fictional jobs, I focused on real jobs in the book world. All of these jobs are ones that I would like if I were ever to follow a different career path.
